Bill Moyers reflects on his interview with Jeremiah Wright
...and asks why white preachers who say inflammatory and bigoted things (like Hagee [please do click the link] and Falwell and Robertson and Graham) get a pass when politicians seek out their support, but Obama gets vilified.
"Behold the double standard...All the rest of us should hang our heads in shame for letting it come to this in America where the gluttony of the nonstop media grinder consumes us all and prevents an honest conversation on race..."
Bill Moyers' commentary cuts to the heart of the matter. This is a must-watch.

I blogged about this on Friday - the double standard treatment of the white ministers vs black. Moyers is so spot on.
Of course, that isn't stopping CNN's Glen Beck from spending an entire HOUR on the Wright issue on his show tonight!!

Yeah, Frank Rich also noted the raging hypocrisy: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/04/opinion/04rich.html.

I have been wondering that same thing myself. OY, don't get me started on Glenn Beck.

Hopefully, none of you are shocked by what Moyers said.

Oh Bill Moyers is brilliant. That's a brilliant point. I had wondered similarly. Among the many other things I've wondered about this whole Wright thing.
I love Bill with the power of a thousand suns. He signed a book to me calling me a kindred spirit. I'm sure he says that to all the mouth-gaping young women who stammer "You're just so so ssssso you like awesome!" But I slept with that book under my pillow.
My dream date: Bill Moyers and Ira Glass.

Oh, Julie-- you'll have to fight me for a date with Bill after this. Such concise, pointed analysis! Such understated brilliance! ON THE TEEVEE, no less. Rawr. He's made my list. My list of journalists I'd like to have a long, hard, deep political conversation with. Watch out, Stephen and Keith.
(Oh, who am I kidding. Stephen Colbert put a lock on my heart with that White House Correspondents' Dinner speech. But I may have to start seeing Bill on the side.)
