Oregon Mail-In Voting: Totally. Righteous.
It's a little embarrassing to admit that I waited until tonight to vote, because I've had my ballot for easily two weeks, and moved it from table to counter to different counter (where it's managed to accumulate some really interesting stains in the interim; I suspect mustard, and possibly crayon smudges are the featured culprits).
But, !, VOTE I did. And, honestly, I find there's almost nothing so satisfying as getting finished and folding up the ballot, popping it in the first envelope, and licking that tab clear across its length. (While assiduously avoiding paper cuts, which are - srsly - HELL on the tongue, especially if you haven't even licked the second envelope yet.) After that, placing it in its second paper-y pocket protector, and signing my Jane Hancock on the back -- which totally makes me nervous every time -- what if they think I've forged my own signature??!?, because I'm a nerd, and, voila!
A beautiful thing, indeed, to sit at your kitchen table and cram like it's a final carefully examine the issues, discuss them with your partner, go head-to-head over who you think is the more progressive candidate and why (taking time to relish your partner's poly sci kah-nowledge being kicked out like a mad eighties jam), take a break to get a snack, then drive down the finish line on the annoyingly difficult-to-comprehend constitutional amendment ballot measures that *sound* very much like one thing but could also be something else altogether (sorta like blue cheese: cheese that is, in fact, *not* blue, rather, it's MOLD. See? Confusing).
I even have the option of driving my ballot to the local library and dropping it off anytime before eight o' clock tomorrow evening, if I've waited too long to get it to the elections location via the post office. (Which, uh, *cough* I have.) But, sweet! Viva la box at the library!, and having the fun of winking and smiling at the other last-minuters. Because we voted. And I do love the delicious flavor of liberty.
Mail-in ballots: mailably awesome.
(pssst! I totally voted for Obama! I hope audaciously!)
Stop on by tomorrow evening as the MOMocrats live-blog the Oregon and Kentucky returns.
Debbie swears; no tongues were harmed in this particular voting procedure. Only signatures. And psyches.

I think they appreciate the "home art" on the ballot. It makes it all more interesting and personal. :) Aren't you glad your vote REALLY matters?

I finally came to a decision about who to vote for and turned my ballot in on Thursday. I'm excited to see what happens tonight.

I switched to permanent mail in here in CA and I absolutely love it too! With all the dang propositions we always have in *every* election it helps to be able to make a copy of my ballot before I mail it so that I can remember how I voted on all of them as I watch the returns :-)

Sweetie darling, was this mad-hot political discussion a Thriller? Did it take you to the Borderline? Did it make you get down and get back up again like Grandmaster Flash?
And yeah, we get a lot of that moldy blue cheese referendum stuff on our Cali ballots, too.

I think the mail in voting is a grand idea, as long as you have a way to document your vote. I suppose you just copy it, right? That's more than I can do standing in a little stall with a black marker.
I must say, however, that I love sporting my candidate of choice's name emblazoned across my bosom, walking confidently into my neighborhood Lutheran church, my children in tow wearing candidate attire as well, and casting my vote for all to see. I like the public affair that it is.
Here's hoping Obama pulls it out in OR tonight!
