Go Read It: Connie Schultz on Sarah Palin
One of my favorite columnists and outspoken voices is Connie Schultz, a Pulitzer prize winning writer at The Plain Dealer in Cleveland. I know I can always count on Connie for insights that make me nod my head and think, "Mmm-hmm. Now can we convince the rest of the country?"
This week she tackles a topic that so many of us have -- Sarah Palin.
Don't run screaming! Really, this piece is worth your while. In her article, Maybe Sarah Palin Has Good Reason to Avoid the Press, Schultz comments:
Interviews with women in crowds, which are as close as reporters can get to a female interview at a Palin event, include proud assertions that Palin is just like them. In most cases, she really isn't, but these comments reflect a deep desire of so many American women who long to see themselves reflected in the leadership of this country. We look at who holds the most seats in Congress and state legislatures, who sits behind most governors' desks, and it's easy to understand some women's initial excitement over Sarah Who.
There's nothing wrong with that desire. That's something I'd like to see in more than just government. Don't worry about Connie's take on this, though. She's got our backs.
When Joanne can finish getting her head around the fact that so many women seem to like Sarah Palin, you can find her talking politics at her place, PunditMom.

I agree with everything in that column, except when the Pakistani president was drooling over Palin, I felt a great deal of empathy for the woman. I wondered what would I do in that situation and I don't know if I would have handled it any differently. It was insulting and no woman deserves to be treated that way. I do not hold her responsible for the President's behavior.

Love Connie Schultz. And her husband -- Sen. Sherrod Brown, a stand-up senator.
