House voting on Fair Pay, National Partnership for Women and Families Says They Need Your Help
Quoted from an email I received from Christine Bechtel, Vice-president of National Partnership for Women and Families, and also quoted from their Web site:
Tomorrow, the House of Representatives is expected to vote on fair pay legislation.
And we need your help…right now!
Women in the United States are still paid only 77 cents for every dollar paid to their white male counterparts — more than four decades after Congress outlawed wage discrimination based on gender.
For women of color, the numbers are even starker — African-American women earn 63 cents and Latinas earn 53 cents for every dollar paid to white men.
It's time for action. The House of Representatives is expected to vote on fair pay as early as tomorrow. Urge your elected leaders to support the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act.
These bills are critical for helping ensure that women get paid the same as men and for restoring a law that for decades has helped victims of wage discrimination fight for justice in the courts.
