Mayor McHottie Gavin Newsom makes it semi-official: He's running for governor

On Wednesday night, Gavin Newsom gave a speech at a town hall-style meeting in San Carlos, California, a sleepy suburb of San Francisco. He even has a slick, new, Obama-esque website up. Can we all just stop pussyfooting around and call it already? He's running for governor. (And we here at MOMocrats are delighted.)
Exploratory committee. Making speeches. Getting the lay of the land. Well played, Mayor Newsom. All I can say is I look forward to 2010 when Prop. 8 has been overturned and you take control of our ailing state.

I dunno...we Socalers kinda like Eric Garcetti--for something! Eric's the *other* rising star of CA Dem Politics. He's currently running for Los Angeles City Council again and seems pretty tight with the Obama people.
Anyway, what an embarrassment of riches we have in CA: Karen Bass (state assembly speaker), Garcetti, Newsom, Hilda Solis who of course is Labor Secretary in the Obama administration...
ANYBODY's got to be better than the Governator.
