Late breaking news today. As I write this post Dennis Kucinich is in the middle of reading his 35 articles of impeachment on the floor of the House of Representatives. He has just reached article 30.
From PressTV:
Kucinich said Bush 'fraudulently' justified the war on Iraq and misled 'the American people and members of Congress to believe Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction so as to manufacture a false case for war'.
"President George W. Bush, by such conduct, is guilty of an impeachable offense warranting removal from office," he said.
C-SPAN is carrying it live.
Go Dennis!!!
Maybe it's the wine talking but I AM SO HAPPY! THANK WHATEVER GOD YOU CHOOSE! ABOUT TIME. ok. I'll stop. BUT, GREAT!!!

OK, but, um - NOW?
Doesn't that seem a little silly NOW?

I know it seems late, but it's the precedent of the thing...

Well, Congressman Wexler from Florida has been calling for impeachment proceedings against members of the administration for some time now. He's focused on Cheney, though. I am happy to see Kucinich put the blame squarely on Bush.
As for the timing, well, perhaps Kucinich, knowing that such a move would brand him as a radical in the eyes of the right and cause a stir, did not want to jeopardize his presidential chances earlier. And this delay might not have been self-serving on his part-- he might actually have felt he'd have a greater chance of convincing others to hold administration officials accountable for their crimes after being elected president.
Also, as we all know, one of the main reasons many liberals have felt it would be pointless to try to impeach Bush is that Cheney (aka the Emperor to Bush's Darth Vader) would just wind up as president. However if impeachment were to happen right at the end of Bush's term, we would only have to put up with a Cheney presidency for a couple of months.
Personally I think Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rove, and Gonzales should have been put on trial for war crimes and high treason years ago. The administration has broken the law, violated the Constitution, violated international treaties our nation helped draft and agreed to, authorized torture and rendition of civilians, some of whom later turned out of be innocent, wasted billions of taxpayer dollars in no-bid contracts to shady businesses with bad records that administration officials themselves had ties to . . . One would think the need for an investigation, at the very least, would go without saying.

I know this seems a bit late for him to do this, but Al Franken predicted this would happen in his "The Truth (With Jokes)." His plan was to, with the help of the super majority gained in the 2008 Congressional elections (the new Congress comes into session a few days before 1-20-2009), complete the impeachment on 1-19-2009. Symbolic, yes, but necessary.

If impeachment means you're deprived of certain perks like presidential libraries and whatnot, as well as everlasting shame attached to your name and legacy, then I'm all for it even if it takes place on January 19, 2009. Because that's the least Bush and Cheney deserve.

It's never too late for justice to be served.
I don't know how Congress can sit and listen to the articles of impeachment and knowing all of the evidence, not have the courage to support Kucinich's call to impeach. Only Wexler.
I feel ill about it, honestly.
