My very own Obama Mama in the middle of a Barack-Michelle sandwich.
My mom was lucky enough to attend Barack Obama's Honolulu fundrasier held last night at the Kahala Resort. She's been a supporter of Obama's since Day 1 and wanted to go and show her support in person. Since she lives in Kahala she didn't have far to travel to attend the event, she just walked up to the hotel from her house.
I love looking at the photos of Obama in Hawaii. He looks so happy to be there. Who wouldn't be, vacationing in such a beautiful place, but I know that smile. I've smiled that smile. It's the easy smile of a local who hasn't been home for awhile.
My mom emailed me to share a brief peek into what the event was like (we MOMocrats have people everywhere), and here is her note:
It was pretty grueling. We got there at 6:30 and I had the photo taken at 9PM. The line was very long. I think the Obamas were taking photos for two straight hours….amazing!
We were given a preview edition of a book “The Dream Begins”…How Hawai’i Shaped Barack Obama.
”You can’t really understand Barack until you understand Hawaii’i," said Michelle Obama. The Advertiser has nice photos of the Obamas on a picnic. He bought Kua' Aina Burgers (and took them to the park.) They’ve gone everywhere in public…amazing! I think they feel safer in Honolulu.
Obama said last night, when Michelle heard he was from Hawaii, it convinced her to marry him so she could spend her holidays in Hawaii…that was cute.
Michelle and Obama were sincerely warm….Michelle exuded this warmth….which was definitely sincere.
What a tough life…
Indeed.
MOMocrat co-founder Stefania Pomponi Butler likes the burgers at Kua'aina, too.
How cool is that -- your mom hanging out with Barack and Michelle! Loved the "sandwich" pic, and her email was great.
I volunteer to go to Hawaii for the next event... :-)

I would cover Senator Obama in Santa Cruz, but the only politico who visits here is Dennis Kucinich.
But, to heck with me! Go Bunny and Wallie's granny! The big question is - what shoes was Grand Momocrat wearing?
You all rock and I'm proud to know you all. xoxox

Love the sandwich picture! My mom would do the same thing, given the chance.

Nickelback produced a great song to this theme:
This time, this place
Misused, mistakes
Too long, too late
Who was I to make you wait... and so on.
I know how it feels like to be back at home after a long long time- it is absoulutely great!
