Just a month ago I was in the land of "mommybloggers" and other Powerful Blogger Ladies at the conference for women who blog (Blogher), in San Francisco. Who I was and what I was doing online at either MOMocrats or my own personal blog was never in question. If anything, it was a giant lovefest of information, connection, and community.
The DNC is a whole 'nother animal, with a different purpose. We've all come together to drink OBiden kool-aid and do the work of electing more and better Democrats. It's one part girding for battle, one part pep rally, and one part lovefest. And what's at stake is epic: War. Peace. Love. And what's on your dinner table every day.
Naturally all this inflated self-importance can infect the brain. Can't tell you how many "cute little pats on the head" from MSM *and* other political bloggers I've experienced upon telling them I write for MOMocrats.
So I've changed my "elevator" description of our site, especially to men (and male MSM journalists) who can hardly hide a condescending smirk as they read my nametag.
NOW HEAR THIS: If you've had a mother, you are a MOMocrat, or should be one.
If you've ever drooled or will drool, if you've ever been incontinent and totally dependent on someone else to wipe your ass for 3 to 4 years (or will be incontinent for any amount of time in your dotage), you are and should be a MOMocrat.
If you've ever cut up food for someone into little tiny pieces or had it cut for you so you don't choke, you're a MOMocrat (or should be one).
Yes, we proudly and happily speak to any and all women, with or without kids. But the childless and the non-female still have moms, moms who presumably they'd like to see have dignified lives free from cat food or other worries.
Now if you can't get with that, then in the immortal words of the Queen of Spain, you can go #suckit.
Cynematic also blogs at P i l l o w b o o k.
ha! i love this! especially because i don't even have kids (yet. . .?) and still read every day, and was warmly welcomed as a guest author once. my MOMocrats aren't an exclusive bunch.
