It's just been announced that John McCain has requested to postpone the presidential debates so that he can "focus on the economy."
Which almost sounds like a good idea. Until you realized that when Obama started focusing on the economy months ago by convening a major economic summit in Florida with a bipartisan team of advisors including Warren Buffet, Google Chair Eric Schmidt, and former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neil--McCain dismissed it as "political theater."
Edited to add: My favorite part of the Yahoo article linked above is the following paragraph:
Obama had called McCain around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to propose that they issue a joint statement in support of a package to help fix the economy as soon as possible. McCain called back six hours later and agreed to the idea of the statement, the Obama campaign said. McCain's statement was issued to the media a few minutes later.
It seems that McCain is getting pretty good at taking Obama's ideas these days and trying to claim them as his own (coughderegulationcough).
Just goes to show you that some people are just born leaders. And some people are just born liars. I mean followers.
Liz Gumbinner is desperately, sweatily, shakily trying to avoid politics on her personal blog these days, Mom-101
McCain is so full of shit. Why does the person who understands the least about the economy need to suspend his campaign? I'm thinking he'll be spending the time reviewing his "Economics for Idiots" book.

Good question Marinka. Desperate political campaigns call for desperate measures I guess.

It looks to me like they all sat down in a room and said "When we toned down the convention to focus on the hurricane, that played well. So let's try a version of that strategy to get out of a debate we are sure to lose." Can't wait to see what kind of excuses them come up with to get Palin out of the debates with Biden.

They should go ahead and have the debates. And if McCain doesn't have the balls to show...well, then give the whole time over to Obama.
Do the candidates have solutions, or don't they?
What better test of a presidential candidate than a presidential-sized crisis? We already know W's done an epic fail, lame duck asshat that he is.
McCain: go big, or stay at home!
