The world is waiting for Barack Obama to be president, just like we are. And for me, what the world thinks counts for a lot.
Go read it.
Hopefully, what the world thinks will translate into enough votes here, to make it happen.

I agree with you, what the world thinks *does* matter. As a European I guess it gives me the benefit of 'foreign' perspective on all this.
However, I am shocked and scared by the arrogance of so many people here that what the world thinks doesn't matter - and it has been said to me 'if other countries in the world don't like us then we should take our toys and go home' - McCain wants to withdraw US funding from countries 'who don't like us very much' said with rapturous applause in response at the RNC - WAKE UP PEOPLE! This country cannot operate in a vacuum!

I definitely think what the world thinks matters. Foreign relations are extremely important right now and we need a president that can get along with the rest of the world, not thumb his nose at it. Should the world decide for us? No, but it should make people stop and listen.

Sadly, there's this jingoist sensibility here that "we don't care what the rest of the fucking world thinks."
Which, really, is the reason we just gave $1 billion to the country of Georgia without managing to form a single drop of European help in the matter.
The rest of the world does matter. I want to be able to travel again without pretending I'm Canadian.
