At the Richmond, Virginia roundtable with Michelle Obama, we got to here quite a bit about what Michelle and Barack Obama think needs to be done to get our economy back on track and to help working families. As part of that, Lily Ledbetter spoke about her pay discrimination suit against Goodyear Tire. If you don't know who she is, you should.
This video clip starts out with Michelle Obama talking about how lucky she and Barack are for the educations they received. "But that education comes with a price."
In the portion you're missing, Michelle says that the only reason she and Barack were able to pay down their debt was his two best selling books. I was floored and heartened to hear that the Obama know what it's like to carry nearly crushing educational loans. As a member of the 100k law school loan club (a sad, but rapidly expanding club), I know how disheartening it can be to finally finish your education, only to discover there's no way in hell you can go "make a difference" by working for a non-profit. Not if you want to eat and pay rent and keep up on your student loan payments.
The woman at the end there is Lily Ledbetter. Ms. Ledbetter was inspirational. It was obvious that she doesn't regularly speak in public, but she spoke from the heart. I have more video of her, but the audio is inexplicably missing, so you'll have to trust me on this.
