Today, when a 158-year old investment firm is about to go bankrupt in the face of no Federal Reserve bailout,
Another is having to be bought to stay in business,
A huge insurance firm is stumbling--and 401ks everywhere, yours and mine, are dangling in the breeze--
Republican candidate for president John McCain said, "The fundamentals of the economy are strong."
!!!
What planet is he on???

Apparently, according to his town hall I saw on Fox today, the "fundamentals of the economy" are the American workers. *They* are what is strong.
How convenient, to now give such a definition to something he has immediately been criticised for saying?

And one of his aides just reiterated the "bunch o' whiners" line in an editorial yesterday.

Since the housing market is strong, according to him, I invite him to try and sell mine at value. Really. Any time would be good.

I invite Phil Gramm to try to find a buyer WHO CAN GET APPROVED FOR LENDING for any one of the 132 houses for sale in my zip code. I live in California, where housing prices are seriously out of whack.

The problem is that the "state of the economy" is a relative term to these guys because they are incapable of seeing the world from anyone's perspective other than their own. McCain's economy, like others of his ilk, is in fine shape. Cindy can traipse around in her $6000 Oscar de la Renta dresses and bejeweled baubles while the rest of us are halting our savings for education and retirement to pay for groceries and gas today. We are literally taking money from our children. I am astonished that people do not see through his utter lack of respect for the average American.

The fundamentals of his economy are strong, I'm sure.

He's insane. And I am convinced that anyone who votes for him is equally so. I can't accept any other explanation.

Natalie, don't you mean the fundamentals of Mrs. McCain the heiress' economy are strong?
John McCain himself makes a "paltry" low six figures plus veteran's pension for being a senator.

Mccain is so out of touch on the economy and his VP choice really scares me.
