The state where I was born and raised is at the heart of economic trouble in this country.
The jobs are gone, the auto industry struggling...it's not a pretty picture.
But for all that talk about how he will help, it seems Senator McCain has decided Michigan is really not worth his time.
Jonathan Martin at Politico writes, "John McCain is pulling out of Michigan, according to two Republicans, a stunning move a month away from Election Day that indicates the difficulty Republicans are having in finding blue states to put in play.
McCain will go off TV in Michigan, stop dropping mail there and send most of his staff to more competitive states, including Wisconsin, Ohio and Florida. Wisconsin went for Kerry in 2004, Ohio and Florida for Bush."
Frankly I'm not surprised. McCain doesn't REALLY care about my family and friends, and never did. He just tried to use them as a political tool to make it seem like he understood the working class.
You want to see someone who DOES get it? Try this out:
Its days like this I wish my mitten shaped home state were more like a glove, so it could flip off McCain-Palin as they leave.
I'm in Florida - and while I am seeing and hearing Barack AND Michelle all over here, I have yet to hear a word from McCain.
Well, unless you count the "nonpartisan" DVD I got in the mail warning me against the horrors of Islam.

UGH. Miss Britt my mom knocked on doors for Obama in Florida yesterday, she said some senior citizen went as far as to flip her off. Sigh.

This is such wonderful news for my home state.

No worries QOS, those old people are closer to kissing dirt than we are, but about the same distance as McCain. I aspire to be old, bitter, and cranky when I'm 80 also.
But seriously, what someone does in their campaign is not regional news like even a decade ago.
Michigan workers are at the heart of some of the issues facing the country today, and he DUMPS them? You dump an entire state because the people there are not worth your time and money, the *world* hears about it, not just the neighbors. Snarky, ill-researched comments are now You Tubed in a matter of an hour, not buried at some local cable televisions vaults.
God help us if McCain/Palin wins.

It's poor leadership.
"Dear Michigan,
I know you guys have it rough right now, with your bad economy and non-existent job market. But still... what about my needs? You can't give me enough support in the polls, so I'm done pretending to care about your problems.
Later, John"

If only my home state of Ohio were so enlightened and would give McCain the boot early... The good news is that the McCain campaign believes that it has to win 2/3 in MI, OH, PA and MI looks to be done, and PA is close.

I'm really rather shocked. I mean, why not just scale down the state, not just back out entirely. I get that hard political decisions need to be made on resources, but they are only a month out.

John McCain is about as useful as a fart in the wind. He is showing himself to be angry, arrogant, flippant and erratic as a Presidential candidate. We do NOT need that in charge of our country - can you picture him in a peace conference or high level talks? He has shown himself to be unwilling to even look Obama in the face, much less acknowledge him... stubborn, arrogant asshole. It is no suprise to me that he is pulling out of MI. It is the same kind of arrogant, erratic decision making that has been happening since McCain became the Republican Presidential candidate.

Under the logic of the post and the comments Obama does not care about me or my neigbors. I have not seen Obama ads on television or contact from the Obama campaign other than one appearance some time ago. It is not like I live in a sparsley populated area, Houston is one of the largest cities in the country. Houston is also at the heart of several important issues facing the country as a whole, illegal immigration and energy.

First, McCain "suspends" his campaign in light of the economic crisis/bailout vote (like he just realized that there was an economic crisis - and only he could solve it!), yet he realized that not only was he made fun of, but the campaign just carried on without him. Now he abandons Michigan because he can't win (poor baby. He does throw those hissy fits!). He will also realize that the campaign will, once again, continue on without him.
I agree with the other commentors that it is thumbing his nose at the citizens of Michigan as well as all of those people hurting - "I don't really care about you, I just care about your vote". I hope the Obama campaign is showing this side of things to the voters in other states - like my home state of Florida - "John McCain shows once again that he cares more for your vote than for you or your problems?"
I see that for the first time Obama is ahead in Florida! I hope he pushes to the max and wins Florida! Obama/Biden '08 and of course '12
