I did a quick request on Twitter of what people would ask if they had the chance at tonight's Town Hall. I got some great questions. On the whole, every question had some relation to health or the economy, but all agreed they expected full and detailed answers, no sidesteps--not just responses. If McCain and Obama take a page from Biden's book, it might be an exciting and close debate!
So what questions did the Twitterati pose?
The questions:
Mamikaze asked, "How do you plan to raise the income threshold for SSI/Medicaid so more working families of special needs children qualify for coverage for medical expenses typical families don't experience?"
Followthatdog asked, "Explain how deregulating insurance will help w/ health care costs. Esp. in light of how well it worked for banking."
Karoli asked John McCain, "How will removing the employer/employee tax incentives for health insurance result in wider individual coverage, given that the individual tax credits you propose will not cover the cost of insurance for a family of four?"
I want John McCain to explain his position switch on PAYGO, especially in light of its history and these economic times.
BrianReich said, "It's not the first question, it's the follow up that I would want. So when they give some toothless answer I can call them on it."
Ilinap asked, "What would you do to ensure every child gets a good education regardless of socioeconomic status and silver spoons in mouths?"
MommysMartini asked John McCain, "I want specifics on what taxing my health care benefits will really cost me: my job doesn't pay a lot but has great benefits."
MommysMartini asked Obama, "I want a clear picture of his priorities and vision for education: "No Child Left Behind isn't working" isn't a policy."
MadjustMad, though Canadian, has been following the race and jokingly (semi) suggested we try to stump the candidates with geography (to test their foreign knowledge), "What's the capital of New Brunswick?"
Mommystory, "I'd ask McCain, based on recent rallies where supporters shouted "Kill him" & "terrorist" re:Obama, if he condones those behaviors?"
Magpiemusing asked, "Mr. McCain, would you please release your medical records, and those of your running mate?"
Alheri asked, "As economic troubles and modern capitalism serious failure reverberates around the world, how candidates aim to help resolve this?"
Great questions and many thanks to the contributors.
What would you ask?
My question, while not key to the survival of our economy or a top-shelf issue at all, would be:
Do you support the right of adoptees to get their original birth certificates?
As it is NOT a key issue, we do not know the answer to this question. If we did, well, I can tell you that if either candidate supported an adoptee's right to their OBC, well, while they might not sway voters from one side to the other, you can bet that win or lose, that particular senator would have a bunch of mail waiting after this election hoopla ends.

My question: which of their various campaign promises are they going to cut, in order to pay for the bailout that just passed?
