You've all heard the hateful mess coming out of some of the McCain and Palin supporters lately. Well, it looks like John McCain finally found his soul.
Watching that video, McCain looks like he's just beaten down by the hate he's hearing, by the hate his campaign has discovered.
I can't say the McCain campaign created the hate and fear, because we all know it's always been there. But over the last few weeks, the rhetoric from the McCain and Palin camps has given these racists and fear mongers permission to give voice publicly to what they normally keep inside their twisted hearts.
Here's hoping that the election discourse will now rise a few notches out of the mud.
Unfortunately, I don't think it will. The problem? McCain's supporters:
Stephanie will go back to posting on Lawyer Mama when this darn election is over and she has time to sleep again.
Bless you, Steph, for bringing this up.
I an sick at heart over all of this... and even though I am not shocked at the things that this woman said, I still find myself upset over it.
I think that we should do a post-election happy hour.
What say you?

My spunky 81 year old mother is an Obama girl. She's set this lady straight.

Poor John McCain. I don't want him to be President, but I do think he knows the difference between election rhetoric and ignorance and fear. This woman did not.

It's about time McCain found his conscience. Thanks for sharing this. I'm so scared that these people exist.

I can only imagine how horrified McCain must be to realize: "This is my BASE?"

I appreciate the fact that McCain spoke up against the ignorance of his supporters, but when you spend months planting these seeds during a campaign, how can you be surprised or above the fray when the hate begins to come to a head? They are playing a very dangerous game here. It scares the hell out of me.

I have had the feeling for quite some time that McCain has been extremely uncomfortable with Sarah Palin - visibly bracing himself (or cringing?) everytime she opens her mouth, and not very happy with the racist turn of his supporters. But as has been pointed out, he has allowed Palin to incite her crowds by spewing lies about Obama and he himself has called into question, for the benefit of his crowds, the person of Obama, his beliefs, his convictions, his patriotism, even his background. Did he not understand where it would go? He does seem surprised at the extent of the violence and racism it has incited, but he should've stopped it on day one, not after the seeds have been planted and started spreading roots. I think that enough formerly undecideds have seen that Mccain, in allowing this to go on, that he isn't about Country First but about Me First. It is so apparent that he will stoop to anything and stop at nothing just to get to the White House.

I agree with Jo-Ann. The McCain camp has definitely planted dangerous seeds of fear and hostility into its supporters that they will believe just about anything heinous said about Obama. These seeds have been cultivated throughout the campaign that anytime Obama's name is mentioned, "terrorist" comes flying out of a McCain supporter's mouth. I appreciate McCain's efforts in attempting to knock some common sense into some of his supporters but their minds aren't going to change overnight. This is how his base thinks and acts...absolutely frightening.
