As with many things that irritate, Focus on the Family's "pro-life" ad has gotten under the skin of a lot of people--people who prefer their sports politics-free, people who are pro-choice, and people who like their gay selves, siblings, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and parents just fine the way they are.
Can't go without mentioning the Planned Parenthood ad:
There's the spicier Raging Grannies ad (women after our own hearts who TOTALLY GET IT):
And now there's an ad making fun of the Focus on the Family's particular brand of right-wing Christian homophobia:
While these are all alternately touching, hilarious, and snarky, it's not about the ads any more. It's about a right-wing religious organization that's funded to the tune of $112,000,000 and chronically UNDERFUNDED pro-choice organizations. That's why MOMocrats launched this Tailgate for Choice campaign.
If we say we support choice and enjoy reproductive rights, then let's walk the walk with even a small donation to the organizations that protect those rights for us and provide needed services to women.
Cynematic needs more hours in the day. Period. She also ignores her personal blog, P i l l o w b o o k.
I'm in!
My own mom would join that singing group of grannies if she could.

The Tim Tebow ad is about one woman's choice. It was her choice to carry her pregnancy to term, rather than to have an abortion; a choice between herself and her doctors. Would Planned Parenthood have the same objections to the Tebow ad if the ad was about a woman who had chosen abortion? If the issue of being Pro-choice is really about choice, why is abortion the only choice that Planned Parenthood stands behind or advocates? One can't help but conclude that if abortion is the only option, then it's really not about "choice," is it?

I love the singing grannies! Also, this kind of makes me want to wear eye blacks under my eyes so that I can advertise things like "repeal DADT" as I go about my day to day life. Snarky eye blacks for everyone!

Cathy--it's not a choice if you can't OPT OUT. Some women don't want children, ever. Some women are in positions where it isn't right for them AT THAT TIME.
So in a way, that's exactly the point of pro-choice people. Let individual women make the choices right for them, in their situations.

Good thing Ms. Tebow's choice worked out for her & her family- she survived her pregnancy with her life & health (mostly) in tact. Unfortunately, a lot of women don't survive who choose to continue a pregnancy against medical advice. What about their stories & also the stories of the existing children they leave behind? Focus on Family my foot!
