On Saturday, October 18th, Senator Barack Obama spoke under the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri, in front of 100,000 people. It was the largest crowd ever to attend an Obama rally in the United States.
Today in Toledo, OH, Senator Obama gives a speech outlining his economic rescue plan to address our financial crisis both in the short- and long-term. It's scheduled for 1:30 pm EST. (Text of the prepared speech here.)
Here's a brief preview of his expected remarks, from the press conference call with Jason Furman, the Obama campaign's chief economic advisor. Remarks in green are excerpted from the text of Obama's speech as prepared for delivery.
According to Furman, representing Obama, there's still a need for immediate action following on Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson's moves to inject capital into illiquid banks. Furman says that Obama's proposals have a four-part scope that can be implemented under existing legislation or could be passed in a lame-duck session of Congress prior to the end of the year. These proposals would not eliminate or usurp other Obama-Biden policies they have previously called for, but action on those bigger initiatives would be reserved for 2009 and beyond.
Blue Star Families Launch Video: Why We are Pro-Military, Pro-Obama
Blue Star Families for Obama launched a video today that articulates why Senator Barack Obama can count on military families for their votes on November 4th.
The video features eight military spouses who share their reasons for voting for Sen. Obama over Sen. McCain.
Blue Star family members share: McCain claims to work for us. His actions don't always agree. He campaigned against the new GI Bill, Voted against troop safety equipment, against vets health care, has a 20 percent rating from the Disabled American Vets.
More Blue Star members add: Barack Obama shows he understands today's military. Obama will help reservists and military families, and he's front-lined mental health care, co-sponsored the GI Bill.
Big words from the angry little man at the Fake Talk Express:
“When are you going to take the gloves off and just go at him?” a
supporter asked the GOP nominee, leading the nearly 1,000 supporters in
the crowd to leap to their feet and cheer.
But It must've still been in Cindy's purse, or Palin's beehive. Or somewhere. It didn't get brung.
All bark on the stump speech, no bite in the debate I guess. McCain couldn't seem to muster the wherewithal to deliver his sleazy innuendoes to Obama, face to face.
Amazing how the Spiralling Vortex of Lies Talk Express can navigate the space-time continuum. I understand McCain's plane landed about 25 minutes before an announcement was made that Congress and the White House had almost reached an agreement.
Then, suddenly the agreement derailed. Coincidence?
McCain: Would rather win an election than let sensitive economic discussions that he doesn't understand anyway continue on without his meddling.
Comedian Sarah Silverman would like to see Obama increase his lead in in Florida, and has made this video appeal to young, Jewish voters (or really, anyone whose grandparents live in the Sunshine State). Try it, you'll like it:
The Obama campaign released this video today for Virginia Veterans for Obama. It contains clips of Virginia veterans and military family members as well as clips of Senators Biden and Obama during events in Virginia.
And, yes, that's me in there. Stephanie Nelson, military spouse. I do think it's interesting that they de-hyphenated me, although I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because my name is really long!
I'm sure our loyal MOMocrats readers sometimes get sick of me flogging the military issues on this blog. But, growing up in a military family and seeing what happens with medical care and housing and child care and education, I can't help but want to change things. Now, while I'm not always personally affected by the same issues as the wife of a Navy reservist, I know that my friends are and my brother is and my community is.
So, I'd like to show you a video put together after Michelle Obama's roundtable with military families in Norfolk, Virginia. This video explains so clearly why Barack Obama is my candidate for president.
Senator John McCain admits he and his party are responsible for the economic crisis on Wall Street and Main Street: "...and I promise you, we will never put America in this position again."
