The MOMocrats wish all of you dads out there a Happy Father's Day! In addition to our own fathers, husbands and partners, we wish to honor:
All the dads who sacrifice time with their families to work hard and bring home the bacon and the organic eggplant;
All the dads who sacrificed their careers to stay home and take care of their kids so mom can pursue her dreams;
All the dads who change diapers, walk the floor at night with a colicky baby, push jogging strollers, and other things their own dads never dreamed of doing;
All the dads who coach soccer, little league, Mathletes, or ballet;
All the dads who show their sons that being a "feminist" doesn't necessarily mean being female;
All the dads who show their little girls that gentleness is the the greatest strength that a man can have;
All the dads who run for office, vote, donate money and time, blog, and report the truth this election season so our kids have a brighter future;
All the dads who serve in the armed services, police forces, and fire stations, putting themselves in harm's way so that we can all feel safer;
All the dads who work for social justice, who defend the constitution and the ideals this country was founded on;
All the dads who were there for us when it counted, and let us go when it was our time to spread our wings;
All the dads who passed on before we were finished loving them and learning from them;
To all of you, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Love,
The MOMocrats & The Kidocrats

Pour yourself a frosty Cindy McCain (sans Ambien, we need you awake) or a smooth Kathleen Sibelius and join us for one of our legendary live chats! Our last chat was a raucous marathon of political fun—over six hours long and not a lull in the entire conversation!
Tonight we're discussing the Montana and South Dakota primaries, the DNC, Hillary Clinton's endgame, and anything else (Scott McClellan, John McCain's lame attempts to seem women friendly), that's on your mind. See you at 6:00PM PST right here.
Now is the time to profess your Rachel Maddow love, people. You know you've just been keeping it all bottled up inside.
Smart. Able to hold her own. Engaging. Confident. What's not to love?
Let it out. We're here, and trust us, we understand.
MOMocrats co-founder Stefania Pomponi Butler wouldn't mind being in the middle of a Rachel Maddow-Chuck Todd sandwich. And, yeah, is fully aware that she is being silly.
Join the MOMocrats tonight at 7:30pm Eastern/4:30 pm Pacific for a liveblog/chat discussion of the primary results in Oregon and Kentucky. We'll give you our views on the results, the coverage, and anything else that comes up this evening.
Pour yourself a glass of Oregon pinot gris or a shot of Kentucky bourbon and join us for a lively discussion right here at MOMocrats.com! Sign up below for a reminder to be sent to you prior to the chat so you don't miss a thing.
Wishing all of you a happy, healthy and joyous Mother's Day 2008. |
This Mother's Day, I'm not thinking so much about me, as about what life will look like when PunditGirl becomes a mother. I know she's only in second grade, but given the political landscapes today (those with a small 'p' and a capital 'P'), I wonder if things will be different.
As a geeky high school senior, I attended a mock political convention at the local college. I was already into following politics -- my social studies project that year was keeping a notebook full of Mo Udall newspaper clips! -- but participating in the mock convention, and knowing that I would vote in my first Presidential election that fall, sealed the deal.
I dreamed about what the world would look like in the decades after that -- fantasizing about women in elective office, women running law firms, women truly taking half the world.
